Lifestyle
Developing strategies and infrastructure that make Alice Springs an even better place to live, work and invest.
This project has four main elements that will focus on stimulating the economy, creating opportunities for investment and providing first class recreation and town facilities.
The Built Environment project will ensure that Alice Springs’ identity is reflected in all aspects of the town's development. It recognises the necessity to retain the essence, character and identity of Alice Springs as an outback town in a fragile arid environment and at the same time ensure that any development is sympathetic with community wishes.
The Todd and Charles Rivers project will continue the development the Todd and Charles Rivers as community areas and encourage local and tourist use of these areas.
The redevelopment of the Mall and CBD will revitalise the town centre.
The Aquatic Centre project will see a new aquatic facility for residents and visitors to Alice Springs and, together with the upgraded Traeger Park, continue the development of the precinct into a first class sport and recreation centre.
How it will happen
- Ensuring that Alice Springs Built Environment Design Guidelines are formally recognised as Planning Guidelines.
- Continued rehabilitation and improvement of the Todd and Charles River corridors for access and use by the Alice Springs community.
- Working with Alice Springs Town Council and the Uniting Church to develop a plan to revitalise the Mall and CBD areas of Alice Springs.
- Working with Alice Springs Town Council to ensure the timely development of an Alice Springs Aquatic Centre.
What it will mean
For residents
- The Mall, CBD and river corridors will be more attractive and inviting community spaces.
- The Aquatic Centre will provide year round access to pool and associated water activities, and provide therapeutic benefits.
- Together with Traeger Park, the area will become a first class sporting precinct with the potential to attract more top level sporting fixtures to Alice Springs.
For business
- Revitalisation of the Mall, CBD and river corridors in general will make these areas more attractive to residents and encourage increased use with additional benefits to businesses in the proximity.
- Government investment in facilities and infrastructure give the private sector impetus to invest.
