Regional Service Centre

Developing Alice Springs as the preferred centre for sourcing and supplying goods and services to industries in the Central Australian region.

Alice Springs is centrally located and is the largest town for hundreds of kilometres in any direction. It makes geographic sense that local businesses be the preferred suppliers to local industry – the Yulara Resort, the Joint Defence Facility at Pine Gap and the mining, pastoral and agricultural industries.

Through research and positioning, Alice Springs can become the preferred centre for procurement for the local industries, leading to local businesses consistently winning local business against interstate suppliers.

How it will happen

  • Business and government working together to research the supply needs of local industries.
  • Building new and revitalising existing relationships with key procurement personnel in targeted industry areas.
  • Facilitating purchaser/supplier opportunities.
  • Assisting local suppliers to identify how they can best meet the needs of industry procurers.

What it will mean

For residents

  • More jobs through business growth.

For business

  • More business opportunities.
  • Business growth.
  • Better access to facilitated supplier events.

What we have already done

  • Worked with the Chamber of Commerce to set direction and strategies to develop local supplier opportunities.
  • Facilitated the Mining Services Expo and Mining Supply Seminar in March 2007.

What will happen next

  • Facilitate events to connect local suppliers with industry procurers.
